Happy Birthday, Pope Francis!
On Wednesday, December 17, Pope Francis turned 78 years old. He said in an interview that he will not do anything to celebrate. We will celebrate as he would, with simplicity and humility.
On December 13 in a tweet, Pope Francis reminded us that it was the anniversary of his ordination. "Pray for me," he said. The Pope has many responsibilities as he guides the ship of St. Peter, always subject to fluctuations, the temptations of the world, and the most diverse human mediocrities. He has also referred to internal "resistance" to reform the curia, which requires "baby steps".
Pope Francis is the moral light in a dark world, searching for peace in the Middle East, denouncing the persecution of Christians, and defending the right to life. On Wednesday, Pope Francis denounced the "inhuman terrorist acts" in Australia and Pakistan.
December 12 is the first celebration of the feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe in the Vatican.
I remember some of the most solemn phrases of the Pope:
- The dominant thought presents abortion or euthanasia as a false compassion (...) to kill a human life does not solve the problem (...) The human life, a gift of God the Creator, has a sacred character
- I want to convey my closeness to your scattered communities in the world and express my breath in particular to Iraq and Syria living moments of great suffering and fear because of violence...
- Since the emergence of the Islamic State, the situation of Christians in the Middle East is truly tragic, especially in Iraq and Syria. All suffer the consequences of Islamic Jihad and the humanitarian situation is distressing.
