I Stand With European Jews
You have certainly heard "Je Suis Charlie" or "I Am Charlie" as many around the world expressed solidarity with the cartoonist victims of an Islamic terrorist attack in Paris. But too few have been willing to stand in solidarity with the Jews who were also targeted by this attack; too few have been willing to say "Je Suis Juif."
The Islamic terrorists who attacked Charlie Hebdo magazine immediately went and took Jewish hostages, killing four innocents in a kosher supermarket as they were shopping for the Sabbath. Now France is acting to protect Jewish communities and schools from further violence, but this is still a tragedy and a serious problem. Many French Jews still do not feel safe and plan to flee Europe to Israel. 5,000 left France last year because of anti-semitic intimidation. Too many are willing to turn a blind eye against Islamic terrorism against the Jewish community.
Already the media is suggesting that the Jewish victims were to blame, or that they weren't targeted at all! BBC reporter Tim Willcox suggested to a Holocaust victim's daughter that targeting of Jewish Parisians was similar to Israel's treatment of Palestinians. CNN reporters Chris Cuomo and Isa Soares told viewers that the attack on a Jewish supermaket wasn't intentionally targeting Jews since the supermarket was located in an "ordinary" area of the city, where non-Jews also shop.
We need to stand with European Jews against growing anti-semitism. In July, the oldest synagogue in Paris was targeted by demonstrators who reportedly chanted ‘death to Jews’ as they attacked.
Lohan Loyane told PBS recently: "If you have a David star over here, you can have a problem, or if you wear a kippa, some people come to you and say you are bad Jews, ‘we are going to kill you and put you in the sea.’ It’s frightening."
Will you sign our petition to the Council of Europe and the Mayor of Paris, urging them to protect European Jews from violent Islamic aggression? The scars of the Holocaust are too recent to ignore. By signing this petition, you are affirming that you support religious freedom and oppose violent anti-semitism!
