Write to Barronelle Stutzman, the Christian florist
Freedom of religious belief and practice has always been a cornerstone of the Western democratic system. In recent years, however, the religious freedom of business owners has been dangerously compromised. We must protect the right of individuals to exercise their religious beliefs in business.
Barronelle Stutzman, a florist and grandmother from Washington, is one such business owner. She declined to provide floral services for a same-sex wedding ceremony based on her conscientious and faith-based objections. Instead of recognizing her religious freedom to make this decision, the state attorney general sued both her business and her personally.
Now, Barronelle is facing the loss of her family business, her livelihood, her live savings, and even her home because of her decision. In a statement on February 20, Mrs. Stutzman said:
“I never imagined that using my God-given talents and abilities, and doing what I love to do for over three decades, would become illegal. Since 2012, same-sex couples all over the state have been free to act on their beliefs about marriage, but because I follow the Bible’s teaching that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, I am no longer free to act on my beliefs.”
I certainly don’t relish the idea of losing my business, my home, and everything else that your lawsuit threatens to take from my family, but my freedom to honor God in doing what I do best is more important”
When Christians enter the workplace, they cannot check their faith at the door. Let’s send encouraging messages to Barronelle Stutzman, telling her that we are inspired by her loving faithfulness to God and her neighbors. In addition to the petition text, you can write your own encouraging message!
