Colorado Needs A Fetal Homicide Law

Colorado is one of a small minority of states that does not have a fetal homicide law on the books. This failure allows criminals who harm preborn babies to get away without facing a just punishment for their crimes.

The recent stabbing of pregnant mother Michelle Wilkins and the removal and subsequent death of her preborn daughter Aurora brought spotlight to the need for fetal homicide legislation in Colorado. The criminal charged in the case, Dynel Lane, will not face murder charges in the death of baby Aurora.

The media may have moved away from this story, but Colorado legislators must not back away from this debate simply because it isn't in the news anymore. To the contrary, something must be done before another case like Aurora's again reminds us of this legal failure!

Colorado Senate President Bill Cadman recently introduced a fetal homicide law, but Senate Democrats in the State Affairs Committee threw the legislation out before it reached a vote. Colorado Democrats claimed that the bill would threaten abortion "rights" in the state. Senate Republicans must not surrender to this Democratic minority. Instead, they must begin anew next session by making abortion-neutral fetal homicide legislation a priority.

It is appalling that preborn babies have no rights while they are in the womb. It is logically inconsistent to protect a baby from harm one minute after he is born, but to not protect that same baby one minute prior to his birth. Murder is murder, regardless of the baby's location. Preborn babies deserve to be protected from those who would do them harm.

This failure of Colorado law is absolutely unacceptable, and Colorado state legislators must be unrelenting in the fight to protect preborn babies.

Sign this petition to let Colorado Senate President Bill Cadman know that you have not forgotten about this legal failure and that you will be watching to ensure that he introduces abortion-neutral fetal homicide legislation in the next Senate session!

Reintroduce Fetal Homicide Legislation

Colorado Senate President Bill Cadman,

Please reintroduce an abortion-neutral fetal homicide law in the Colorado Senate next session. Fetal homicide legislation must be a priority for the Colorado Senate, and Senate Republicans must not cede to a Democratic minority in this debate.

Colorado is one of only a small minority of states that does not have a fetal homicide law on the books. This failure means that crimes against pre-born children are not fully and justly punished.

Do not give up the fight to defend pre-born babies.
