Irish to decide on same-sex marriage

This coming Friday, on 22 May, the Irish people will vote in a referendum on same-sex marriage.

The polls show that the 'No' side and the 'Yes' side are neck-and-neck as they head down the final stretch (http://www.pressreader.com/ireland/sunday-independent-ireland), with the 'Yes' side on 53% and the 'No's' and 'Don't Knows' on 47%. These numbers represent a massive shift towards the 'No' side, and political pundits are saying that 10-15% of the people who are saying 'Yes' in the polls will secretly be voting 'No.'

So, as they say in Ireland: There's all to play for.

And, the stakes couldn't be higher.

While the 'Yes' side claim that "Love and Equality" are all that matter, the 'No' side has been defending a number of important issues as related to the natural family, including: the right of a child to a mother and a father; the fact that the only way for two gay men to have a baby together is through the use of a surrogate mother; that Irish adoption law will be changed so that preference cannot be given to an opposite-sex couple; and, that education curricula will have to be changed to reflect the "new reality" of two mammies or two daddies being the same as a mammy and a daddy.

So, clearly, it's not only "Love and Equality" which matter.

And, now, after an intensive month of campaigning, the full import of what is being proposed by the Government - with all of its unexplained and undebated consequences - is starting to give pause to what seemed like a foregone conclusion.

The leading 'No' side campaign, Mothers and Fathers Matter, have an excellent website - keepmarriage.org - which has been at the forefront of informing and educating people as to the nature of the debate. And, it is largely as a result of their efforts that the 'No' side are now winning over the hearts and minds of the Irish people.

With only today and tomorrow left to go till voting is complete, Irish people are still in the process of making up their minds.

Our petition is directed to the 'No' side campaign. We ask that you please show your support for the 'No' side - that is, FOR the natural family, and for marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

And, we also ask that if you know any Irish people, you share with them this petition and the information contained on the website listed below.

In this crucial last day before the referendum, people deserve to get as much information as possible!

Please also keep Ireland in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you.

Dear Irish 'No' Campaigners,

I understand that the 'No' side is now drawing even with the 'Yes' side, and that momentum is on your side. You have fought a great campaign, and I encourage you to keep going until the last moment possible.

I want to express my support for your 'No' side position as a defence of the natural family. Many people in Europe, the Americas and Australasia are looking at your work with great expectations - hoping and praying that you will succeed in defending the natural family, by securing a 'No' vote.
