The Court has 21 days to rehear the marriage cases. Please do rehear these cases.
The Court's recent marriage rulings were completely unconstitutional and illegal. The Court has 21 days from issuing a ruling in which it can decide to rehear a case. The Court needs to rehear these two marriage cases and come to a ruling that is actually constitutional and legal. The majority decision written by Justice Kennedy is so broad and sweeping that it legislated a totally new and unconstitutional "right" to same-sex marriage that isn't supported either by the Constitution or the law. We ask that the Supreme Court rehear these cases immediately and remedy this.
UPDATE 07/13/2015: These signatures have been forwarded to the Attorneys General of Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky with a request that they formally petition the Supreme Court for a re-hearing of the Obergefell v. Hodges case. Since this case consolidated cases originating in all four states, they all have the ability to petition the Court for a rehearing, whereas individuals and outside parties do not.
These signatures provide direct support for requesting a re-hearing and should not be ignored by either these Attorneys General or the Court. Each office now has the link to this petition, so they can watch the numbers grow along with the demand for a re-hearing. So, keep sharing the petition. They have a few days left to decide whether or not they will make this request.
