Global Call to Protect Life in Spain
Stand with the citizens of Spain in their fight to defend the sanctity of life!
Sign our global petition to send a clear message to the Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy, that life is precious and he should deliver on his promise to reform the country’s current abortion law.
In 2010, the governing Socialist Party changed the Spanish abortion law to make abortion easily available on demand in the first trimester, contrary to the will of the Spanish people. The restrictions on abortion in the second trimester were weakened, too, and girls of 16 and 17 were given the right to have an abortion without parental consent or knowledge.
Under the 2010 abortion law, more than 300 unborn babies are being aborted in Spain every single day!
Citizens throughout Spain were outraged at these changes and began to mobilize on the streets. In 2011, the conservative People’s Party acknowledged the people's will and won a landslide election on the promise of changing the abortion law. In his first public speech in 2012, the newly appointed Minister of Justice, Alberto Ruiz Gallardón, vowed to change the abortion law.
In December 2013, Gallardón and the People’s Party followed through on their promise as the Spanish Council of Ministers adopted a draft bill to protect both the lives of unborn children and the health of pregnant women. The propsed new law would severely limit abortion before 22 weeks, eliminate eugenic abortion and require parental consent for abortions on girls under the age of 18.
The majority of Spanish citizens are in favor of the new law, but pro-abortion radicals both inside and outside of Spain are pressuring the government to drop the proposed changes. We fear the pressure the Spanish government is receiving from foreign governments, including the European Union, could become unbearable, leading to loopholes in the new law that would allow the abortion of hundreds of Spanish children every day to continue unabated.
Pro-lifers in Spain continue to mobilize in favor of the new law, but they need our help. In order for this pro-life law to pass, we need to stand with the pro-life citizens of Spain!
Please use your voice to stand for unborn children in Spain. Leaders all over the world, especially in Latin America, are watching to see what Spain will do next. If Spain passes this pro-life law, Latin American countries are likely to make pro-life reforms to their own laws.
Let us stand together as a global pro-life community! Sign our petition to urge the Spanish government to pass this new pro-life law!
