Wisconsin TV stations refuse to air pro-life ad during the news hour!
To clarify any confusion surrounding the story below:
After further investigation with both pro-life groups and, also, with the television stations in question, CitizenGO needs to make a slight clarification to the story below.
After the pro-life groups, named below, submitted the advertisement and made a down payment, both news stations came back and said they did not believe the content was "appropriate" for evening and morning news. Fox6 would only air the advertisement between 10pm and 4am, while WISN would only air the advertisement during off-hours, in the middle of the day or during the middle of the night.
This was certainly not what the pro-life groups had in mind when they began making payments for their ad.
In addition, both stations required content to be added to the commercial, such as “Paid for by”, which are classifications required for political advertisements.
If political advertisements can be aired during the news hour, pro-life advertisements should also be considered “appropriate.” Wisconsin Family Action and Pro-Life Wisconsin told CitizenGO that they would have been willing to make any other technical changes to the ad, had the stations permitted the advertisement to be shown during the morning and evening news cycle.
CitizenGO is still waiting to hear back from the stations, confirming the implementation date of this policy on abortion related advertising, and also whether they will refuse other advertising relating to abortion in the future, including attack ads during the upcoming political cycle.
Two Milwaukee television stations are refusing to air a pro-life commercial that exposes the sale of aborted babies’ body parts.
Fox6 and WISN have both declined to air an advertisement co-sponsored by Wisconsin Family Action and Pro-Life Wisconsin during the news hour. Please tell Fox6 and WISN to stop censoring speech and to run the pro-life ad!
The ad is in support of AB 305, a legislative measure that seeks to stop aborted fetal body parts from being used in scientific and medical research in Wisconsin. Other political and issue ads have been aired on both stations.
The ad depicts a 4D ultrasound image of a baby and asks “What is a human life worth?” The commercial refers to research by the Center for Medical Progress to note that body parts from aborted fetuses can be sold to researchers for between $60 and $90.
The ad concludes that “human dignity is priceless” before urging viewers to call Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R) to ask him to schedule AB 305 for a floor vote in the state assembly. AB 305 is one of several bills targeting fetal tissue research and funding for abortion providers to be considered this legislative session.
"The ad affirms the human dignity of aborted preborn children," said Pro-Life Wisconsin state director Dan Miller in a statement. "Ethical and effective research does not, and never should, depend on the desecration of aborted human beings. We are simply calling on Speaker Vos to stand by his initial public support of AB 305 and to immediately schedule a floor vote on the bill. The votes are certainly there to pass this bill intact."
Please sign the petition and tell Fox6 and WISN to allow the commercial to air during prime-time!
