Mother of quintuplets rejects selective abortion!
Two decades ago, Susan Thompson and her husband found out that they were pregnant not with their third child but with their third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh child! While this young mother realized that God had given her quintuplets, many of her doctors urged her to selectively abort some of her children.
Today, all five of Thompson’s children have graduated from high school! Please take a moment to recognize and thank Thompson for her courageous motherhood in carrying all five babies to birth and raising all of her children well. It’s rare that we see such encouraging stories of life and motherhood and it is important that we praise Thompson’s example.
Thompson says that after she found out she was pregnant, her doctor immediately talked to her about selective abortions and other specialists tried to urge her to kill three of the babies in her womb. Carrying so many babies to birth can be dangerous for the mother, but Thompson rightly choose to sacrifice her comfort and safety to protect the lives of her unborn children.
Seth, Leah, Samuel, Hope, and Faith were born January 7, 1995. Thompson writes of her now adult children, “After [high school] graduation, three joined the military to serve our country and two are pursuing careers in the medical field. They are all responsible adults who love God and make this world a better place.”
In a culture that sees children as an inconvenience that can be disposed of at will, Thompson demonstrated courageous motherhood.
As Christians we should be striving to empower women to choose life. If the Christian community isn’t creating a culture of life, more women will be sucked into a tragic cycle of death and more babies will never be born.
One of the ways we can create a culture of life is by celebrating the heroes of our movement such as Thompson. Please join with me in applauding her courageous example and celebrating the beautiful and productive lives of all seven of her children, but particularly the five who were at risk of being terminated.
