New York: Protect Religious Liberty! Stand with Cynthia and Robert Gifford

A Christian family in New York has been fined $13,000 for declining to coordinate a same sex marriage ceremony on their farm. Their case is being appealed; tell the court to protect their religious liberty!

Last July, the New York State Division of Human Rights ruled that Cynthia and Robert Giffords were guilty of "sexual orientation discrimination" for declining to coordinate a same-sex wedding ceremony at their farm.  The Commissioner fined them $10,000 plus $3,000 in damages and ordered the Giffords to implement staff re-education classes that contradict the Giffords’ beliefs about marriage.

The Giffords appealed that ruling and on November 23rd, the Alliance Defending Freedom argued their case before the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division. Please sign this petition to voice support for the Giffords! It is crucial that New York state officials know that the Giffords are not alone. Let’s stand with them to protect religious liberty for all.

As one of their attorneys Caleb Dalton said, “ All Americans should be free to live and work according to their beliefs, especially in their own backyards. The government is coming after both this couple’s freedom and their ability to make a living simply for adhering to their faith on their own property.”

Fellow ADF attorney James Trainor said, “We’ve gone from tolerance to compulsion. State government should not be forcing people to violate their own religious beliefs, nor should they be forced to make a choice between making a living and violating their own faith.’’

“We are not going to host same sex marriages. It’s not what we believe, it’s not who we are, it’s not how we raised our family,” said Cynthia. “And I had no idea that the government could come in and tell us, here in our own home, that we have to have same sex marriages here, in our backyard.”

Let’s stand with Cynthia and Robert and protect the rights of American Christians across the country. The government must not be allowed to force Christian families to violate their beliefs to accommodate same sex couples. Please voice your support for the Giffords and the rights of all Americans to exercise freedom of religion.

*This petition is addressed to the Commissioner of New York Division of Human Rights Helen Foster and the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division.

Stand with Cynthia and Robert Gifford

Dear Commission Foster and the Supreme Appellate Court,

A Christian family in New York has been fined $13,000 for declining to coordinate a same sex marriage ceremony on their farm.

Last July, the New York State Division of Human Rights ruled that Cynthia and Robert Giffords were guilty of "sexual orientation discrimination" for declining to coordinate a same-sex wedding ceremony at their farm.  They were fined $10,000 plus $3,000 in damages and ordered the Giffords to implement staff re-education classes that contradict the Giffords’ beliefs about marriage.

I believe all Americans should be free to live and work according to their beliefs, especially in their own homes.

The Giffords should not be forced to choose between violating their sincerely held religious convictions and making a living. The Giffords appeal was just heard by the New York Supreme Appellate Division. Please reverse the decision of the lower court to protect the rights of all Americans to exercise their religion.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
