An elementary school production of Charles Schulz's "A Charlie Brown Christmas" has been censored by political correctness bullies waging a war on Christmas. Right now, the scene in which the character Linus explains the true meaning of Christmas by quoting from the Bible is set to be deleted.

W.R. Castle Elementary School, located in Johnson County, KY, is being forced to censor the scene by the District's Superintendent, Tom Salyer. He sent a message to the schools telling them that Christmas programs must not "endorse any religion."

Even though Linus' inspirational scene can hardly be considered an "endorsement" of religion—he simply provides a factual explanation of the reason we celebrate Christmas—secularists hate any mention of Jesus in schools.

Of course, the Founders of the United States recognized that our Republic would only survive with an educated and religious citizenry.

The Northwest Ordinance of 1787, which the First Congress reenacted, stated: "Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged." They also authorized paying Christian chaplains from public moneys. Moreover, the Christian tradition holds a privileged place in the history and culture of our nation, serving a public purpose to promote morality.

There's simply no justification for censoring the true story of Christmas in elementary schools simpy because it might be perceived as "religious." For too long, secularists have been waging a war on Christmas. We cannot allow the most beautiful message of all to be silenced!

I'm appalled by your message to Johnson County Schools, which essentially gags students from talking about the religious significance of Christmas, even in school plays like "A Charlie Brown Christmas."

The Supreme Court has recognized that the Christian tradition has a privileged place in the history and culture of our nation, serving a public purpose to promote morality. There is simply no legal substance to the argument that Linus can't explain the true meaning of Christmas in an elementary school play because of the Establishment Clause.

This is blatant political correctness run amok.

Please allow the true meaning of Christmas to be heard and let Linus say his lines!
